Africa has many animals that live there. Here are some of them with a little fact.
One animal that lives in Africa is a cheetah. Did you know that cheetahs are the fastest animal on land? The spotted cheetah can sprint faster than 70 miles per hour. Cheetahs live in the wild in scattered parts of eastern and southern Africa. A small number of wild cheetahs live in Iran, but most cheetahs live in grasslands and dry, open areas.
Zebras and Elephants
There are three kind or species of zebras and elephants. The three kinds of elephants are Savanna elephant, the African forest elephant, and the Asian elephant. The three kinds of zebras are the plains zebra, Gravy’s zebra, and the mountain zebras.
Hyenas live in the dry lands. The spotted hyena is known for it's hunting cry which sounds like a person laughing. Hyenas are yellowish brown and they can be spotted or have stripes.
Snakes also live in Africa. Snakes are closely related to lizards except they don’t have legs. There are about 2,900 species of snakes. The best known snakes are cobras, vipers, boas, and pythons. Most snakes live above ground, but others prefer trees. Some snakes spend their lives in underground tunnels. Some of the things that snakes eat are mice, rats, birds, frogs, fish, insects, lizards, animal eggs, and sometimes other snakes.
Africa has many unusual plants. The plants in Africa grow well in wet worm rainy forests. In parts of Africa huge trees grow like the Mahogany tree and the Ebony tree. Amazing plants grow there like the orchids and the African violets. The orchids grow in the rain frosts in Madagascar. The African violets grow between 50-300 feet. They usually grow in rock crevices.
Some of the natural resources in Africa are oil, diamonds, and gold. Oil is found underground in north Africa. Diamonds and gold are also in Africa they are mined from the ground in south Africa.
The climate is different all over the continent. In the north it is mostly hot and dessert. In the middle of Africa it is mostly rain forest and wet lands. In the south of Africa it is dry and dry grass lands.
